GROUND PENETRATING RADAR

What is Ground Penetrating Radar?
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) by NYLD Infrastructure, is a non-invasive imaging technology that uses high-frequency radio waves to detect subsurface objects. It is ideal for organizations seeking to avoid costly delays or damage that can occur when underground obstructions are unexpectedly encountered.

GPR works by beaming a high-frequency radio wave pulse into the ground and interpreting reflections received at the surface. It produces images similar to an X-ray but without the risks of radiography. Skilled NYLD Field Technicians interpret the images to determine the location and depth of utility installations, geologic features and other objects in real time.

GPR is most often used in the following applications:

  • Utility location
GPR can identify metallic and non-metallic pipelines, underground storage tanks, cable banks and even live power cables encased in concrete. It is one of several NYLD location methods used to verify existing infrastructure.

  • Construction area concrete scanning
GPR from NYLD Infrastructure can identify support cables, structural steel, rebar and anomalies prior to boring and drilling.
  • Cemetery scanning
NYLD Field Technicians understand the importance of non-invasive scanning for cemeteries and sensitive archaeological sites. GPR is used to locate graves, vaults, headstones and markers without disturbing the soil or any burials.

  • Environmental studies
GPR can delineate leach fields and landfills, locate possible sinkholes, and determine depth to bedrock or water table.

Founded in the early 90’s, NYLD Infrastructure, has helped municipalities, utilities and developers nationwide obtain the information they need, before they dig. We offer a wide range of Utility Location, Utility Mapping, Leak Detection and other services under one roof to help organizations improve efficiencies and achieve a fuller understanding of underground infrastructure.
